Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or screen production, especially an American one
Synopsis
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, is offered a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the US and British governments to allow the series to use real locations, including the recently opened US embassy (Nine Elms) in 2018.
Screened at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
The only location that was not available was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.
I’m so glad I did because it was great
I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many good things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a try. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I was hooked from the very first episode
While Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I thought it had more to do with the script than the acting, so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell would be able to pull off the show as leads, but they really do, they’re both amazing here. The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good.
