Synopsis
A TV series adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross
Hodge is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first played him on screen in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 film sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the title character in 2012’s Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and prompted Lionsgate to scrap a previously planned sequel, Double Cross.
James Patterson’s best-selling book series
Aldis Hodge is electric as the titular cop “Alex Cross,” based on the film.
But the series waxes and wanes with a drawn-out 8-episode run that doesn’t justify its runtime
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinsen are the ones who grab the attention, and even Aldis Hodge’s towering lead role steals the spotlight.
Watchable, but don’t expect "Reacher" or "Sugar"
If creator Ben Watkins had kept the script tighter and focused on the detective elements rather than the main character’s personal struggles, this could have been a groundbreaking series.
